A man walked into a jewelry design shop and asked Asher Freeman to alter what seemed to be pre-bought, golden snitch inspired locket.
Asher, who launched his company in 2014 and has been making jewelry for almost 15 years, took this locket and transformed it into an engagement ring box like no other; it looked identical to the golden snitch, the sought-after gold ball from J.K. Rowling’s fictitious game, Quidditch, in her popular fantasy series, Harry Potter.
A man walked into a jewelry design shop and asked Asher Freeman to alter a pre-bought locket into a golden snitch inspired engagement ring box.
After he posted his completed product online, Asher knew that he was on to something more than just a ring box. He recalls quite a few inquiries coming in from people, asking where and how they can get their hands on one of these! And we definitely don’t blame them!
Freeman Design’s end product looked identical to the golden snitch, the sought-after gold ball from J.K. Rowling’s fictitious game, Quidditch, in her popular fantasy series, Harry Potter.
But where some people were showing interest in his work, there were others within the trade, as well as outside of it, who passed comments like, “You’re a jewelry maker, why are you making a ring box?” The designer found this very interesting. His response to these comments was simple: “I don’t limit myself. I like coming up with different alternatives and various ways of doing things. I enjoy the creative freedom of my work and trade.”
People questioned why a jewelry maker was making ring boxes, but Asher had a very simple response: “I [won’t] limit myself. I enjoy the creative freedom of my work.”
It’s intriguing to know that Asher never keeps track of how much time it takes him to complete a given project, so he’s not exactly sure how long it took him to make this box. He’s so engrossed by the task at hand that he doesn’t keep track of time or any of the negative comments that may come his way.
When asked about his interest in Rowling’s work, Asher laughs and admits that he got onto the Harry Potter fandom train a little bit later than everyone else: “I’m a Harry Potter fan now,” he says.
He has since taken many other inquiries of people wanting similar engagement ring boxes.
Regardless of how late he got onto this train, his customers are glad to have Asher on board! His close attention to detail and the amazing work he’s done in the past has bagged this designer another very interesting, Harry Potter inspired, project.
The designer has recently become a Harry Potter fan.
And is working on another Harry Potter inspired jewelry project that will involve illusions!
So, what will be different about this piece? Without giving away too much information, the design maestro indicates that this project will involve some illusions, and will take a couple of years before it comes out. With that said, it’s safe to assume that we all have some time to practice Harry’s nifty Disillusionment Charm! Never know when you’ll need, right?
